Nan resting."I can't ride another mile!"

I hve no idea where Springerville might be located. But in the above photo, we are in Eagar (Beavar?) sic and looking for a place to stay. We had agreed if there was someplace reasonable in the next town or two, we could push on but it turned out that the next town was an hour away with only two motels, one very expensive and the other with no rates posted on their website; just a note that if you wanted a reservation, to phone and have your credit card handy. So we decided that was not an option and Nan got up off the pavement and we rode four more km to a little retro motel.

Grand entryway.
We have had a few of these this trip. The word is out that if you slap some paint on an old motel, do some cheap renovations and buy some thrift store furniture, an old motel can have a new life. That's a good thing. None of these places are perfect but they are generally clean, have good beds, some character and tug at your nostalgia strings.
That is "75 years young!

Breakfast room.

Our suite for the night. Check out
the old-timey telephone, that still works.

It was a fairly easy day, on the road by 8:45 this morning and we beat some of the heat, though ironically, first thing this morning was the hottest time of the day for us. We rode for over three hours until we decided it was time to give our butts a rest, after having had a mere 10 minute break allowing some traffic to pass and to check on the straps holding down the camping gear. Plus, we hadn't eaten. We slowed to check out a few roadside diners but they were generally closed or had signage like "Adult Cabaret". That place was open. We ended up at Dairy Queen, our first fast food place on the trip. We each opted for "chicken salad" and I use that term loosely. Lettuce with deep fried battered chicken. Just what the doctor ordered. The heart surgeon, that is. We also each drank about two litres of lemonade.
