Day 29: An awesome walk around Santa Fe

No riding today. Warm but not smokin' hot - about 31, according to reliable sources.

We left here in the morning after a pretty good sleep and on the mend AGAIN. Our plan was to walk up to the "Farmer's Market" which is really an artisan's market as there

Nan with jewelry makers where she bought earrings.

were no vegetables to be had anywhere in sight. That's ok, we weren't looking for any more food since we can't eat what we have. Kinda hip, kinda trendy, lots of fun; it is located in the Santa Fe Railyards. We even saw several artisans working on their craft at their booths which gave them an aire of authenticity. Nan treated herself to some earrings, which was good. Earrings don't take up much room so I don't think she is going to have to toss anything out to get her three pairs in her pannier. I wanted to buy a tank but I didn't find one that I liked enough that I was prepared to toss one of my existing ones out.

We spent a fair amount of time at the market then, on a lark, even though we had done a gallery day, we stopped in at the New Mexico Museum of Art - Vladum Contemporary. I offer you some of our favourties. Artist biography followed by their work.

Super interesting and totally worth the $12 cover, which also got us into the New Mexico Museum of Art, which depicted more traditional works.

At the Vladum, a security guard asked us if we were going to get our picture taken. ???? I had seen a sign that family portraits were being done but hadn't given it much thought. However, there we were at the studio and we met Artist in Residence for the month of June Alex Traube. Alex had several portraits on the wall - taped up and many of the photos were quite striking. Some of the photos he had taken 50 years ago. There was one in particular that really moved me and he told us that she had been in this morning, after appearing in the photo 50 years prior.

Tomorrow I wil post a picture that Alex shot of us. We also got a snap with Alex.

After a few hours of walking around the two galleries we were heading back to the suite through the market area. There was an outdoor recreation co-op in the railyard and we have been looking for some particular stuff so we stopped in but not before we heard a great cover of Jimi's Hey Joe playing somewhere in the railyard. We did our shopping and after could here the band playing somewhere... so as we walked we spotted them on the deck of a craft brewery. Nan looks at me and says "are you thinking what I am thinking?", which, as it turned out, was what she was thinking, so we went up to the deck, got a couple of beers, and totally got into the Santa Fe band Super Chief. We only caught the end of their set, which was terribly sad as they were awesome.

We walked back to the suite because we need to get some laundry done before heading out in the morning but snapped these along the way, not quite in order.

New Mexico embraces its history of alien ship crashes.

We learned yesterday that the reason some people paint their front doors blue is because it keeps witches out. Maybe aliens, too.
